15-01-2013 EPPA launches European Code of Conduct

EPPA launches European Code of ConductDuring the opening ceremony of the 51st international PSI Trade Show, Hans Poulis, president and CEO of the European Promotional Products Association (EPPA), officially launched the EPPA Certification Program for CSR. The Certification Program is built around the need to increase the level of professionalism in the industry and will contribute to the positive image of the industry.

The program supports companies in responsible entrepreneurship and is very straightforward in its objective: compliance with law & regulations and adherence to human right and ILO standards.
The program has a three-level approach in which companies can start and mature towards full compliance with the standards our industry sets. The first level is undersigning the Code of Conduct, showing a company respects the rules and regulations our governments set to, for example, protect consumers or guarantee product-safety, and respecting the International Labor Organizations’ conventions and basic human rights. This needs to be embedded in a company’s DNA and decision making processes. Each next level drives responsible business activities throughout the company, requires to meet certain criteria and will be externally verified by an independent auditor. You can find more information about the EPPA Code of Conduct here.

Last November, EPPA and PSI announced their partnership regarding the Certification Program. PSI acknowledges the program and both parties will join forces in creating a communication platform to inform the industry. They will also initiate a work group to increase the image of the industry. Both agree that it is important to educate end customers in order for this industry to achieve due significance and appreciation for promotional products. The major task of the work group will be to develop tools and platforms to demonstrate the importance and impact promotional products have as an advertising medium.
